BUCYRUS, Ohio (June 20, 2005) - Step aside. The new Baja 405 is here. Flagship of the Performance series, the 405 takes Baja's full-throttle philosophy and raises the bar another notch. It's bigger and badder - but has more space and comfort than anyone would have ever thought possible from a performance boat. The 405 is a shot across the bow of those who say comfort and luxury are incompatible with performance.
"This boat doesn't know the meaning of the word 'compromise'," said J.R. Jenney, Baja's director of sales and customer service. "Sure, it's a big boat with lots of room and a nice-sized galley, but we haven't forgotten
our core customer. With a pair of twin 496 HOs, we expect a top speed near 60 mph that's sure to satisfy the performance needs of even the most demanding consumer."
The 405 has been greatly anticipated by the Baja faithful. It offers a logical migration path for long-time fans and owners of Baja's .38 Special and 342 models. Those boats have been tremendously popular for over a decade, but the 405 will inspire a new level of adulation.
"The 405 is the new standard bearer in the big, wider-beam fast cruiser market," Jenney said. "We're bringing more technology to bear and providing higher quality for a very competitive price. Baja doesn't have to take a back seat to anyone in the performance cruiser market."
If you want to take a seat, however, you'll have plenty of room. Walk below and you will be floored by the space. Baja eliminated all the bulkheads in the cabin giving it an expansive feel. Then Baja layered on the amenities to make that big and roomy space inviting and comfortable.
Above deck, Baja included features to ensure the 405 is a performer on plane or at anchor. A walk-through transom to the add-on swim platform, ample storage, a molded-in entertainment center with sink and icemaker in the cockpit and optional generator make each 405 its own party cove. Split throttle controls, lush electric bolsters, ample dash room for optional Navman and Northstar electronics and an optional radar arch all show that Baja knows 405 owners won't be sitting still for long.
It's part art, part science, getting the comfort-performance mix just right. Baja's development team pulled out the high-tech stops to ensure that all that luxury could really move. Future-forward design software, water and wind-tunnel testing, and the latest composite advances drive the 405's signature union of speed and style. Maximizing the hull's traditional V-shape and keeping the size in balance were two of the key variables in Baja's search for peak power and optimum comfort. Add on twin MerCruiser power, an ample weight savings from Finite Element Analysis and you can see how Baja was able to maintain those trademark elements of speed and power.
"The 405 adds another layer of refinement to Baja's muscular line-up. Our high-tech development process has generated a boat that is large and comfortable, but is also fast and furious, and deserving of the Baja name," said Rob Parmentier, president of Baja Marine.
