The new Hatteras 77 Convertible will appeal to both cruisers and sportfisherman thanks to its customer-driven interior layout options and industry-leading specifications in beam, draft, fuel capacity and accommodation space.
Like all Hatteras yachts, the 77 Convertible is built on a solid-fiberglass hull with Dinvinycell coring in the decks, bulkheads and hullsides above the waterline. She features a length of 76’10”, a 22’ beam and a shallow draft of 5’3”, easily the best in her class.
The 77 Convertible features an advanced convex hull design for smooth ride and optimal performance. The convexity of the bow reduces the impact accelerations for a smooth head-sea ride, while the fast taper to flat aft sections improves speed and stability. An exaggerated bow flare works in conjunction with double chines to knock spray down and away. Running strakes that bisect the stagnation line provide increased stability and improved tracking. Hatteras’ deep propeller tunnels allow the large propellers to be tucked closer to the hull bottom, improving efficiency and reducing draft.
Thanks to the performance-enhancing features, the 77 Convertible is projected to cruise at 28-30 knots and hit a top speed of 31 to 33 knots with standard CAT C32 ACERTs @ 1800 BHP each. And with a fuel capacity of 3,000-gallons, the 77 Convertible offers an unparalleled range – 500 nautical miles at wide-open throttle! With the top-rated 2400-hp MTUs, she is projected to achieve a top speed of 35 to 37 knots.
ACCOMMODATIONS Just inside the sliding door, a day head to port is easily accessed from the cockpit, while a stylish, sweeping staircase offers easy navigation to the enclosed Sky Lounge above. The 77 features a luxurious salon with an enormous L-shaped sofa with rod storage beneath, a custom club chair and plenty of storage. Also available in the salon is an optional private stairwell to the crew quarters below.
The 77 Convertible will be equipped with Hatteras’ Ultimate Entertainment Package, a state-of-the-art audio/visual entertainment system that features touch-pad controls throughout the vessel, along with upgraded flat-screen televisions and powerful audio capabilities. In the salon, Boston Acoustics 5.1 surround-sound speakers will delivery theater-quality sound to accompany the 50-inch high-definition plasma TV.
No step is required to access the galley, which features an upright Subzero refrigerator/freezer with wraparound counter and three custom bar stools with backs. Inside the galley, Hatteras’ popular extended pull-out drawers recess into the backsplash fascia. Standard amenities include a trash compactor, garbage disposal, four-burner ceramic cook-top and a microwave convection oven concealed behind a wood door. Under-counter Subzero units are available as an option, as is a full-size dishwasher, supplemental icemaker and chilled wine storage. Amtico strip flooring and stone countertops and backsplashes give the galley an elegant look and long-lasting durability.
To starboard, a large dinette features a U-shaped lounge with copious seating and a high-gloss wood table with decorative pedestal. Forward of the dinette is a laundry room with front-loading washer and dryer, while opposite lies a full-height, walk-in pantry that easily accommodates an optional top-loading freezer and provides unprecedented galley storage.
LOWER LEVEL Below decks, the 77 is configured with four staterooms, each with a private head, as well as crew quarters accessible from the engine room. The master stateroom lies amidships and is accessible through a foyer entry with full length cedar-lined hanging lockers. The true full-beam master stateroom is equipped with a king-size berth, large oval portlights for ambient light, and twin dressers and nightstands. For entertaining, you’ll enjoy the 37-inch plasma TV with MATV outlet, DVD/CD changer and high-quality speakers.
Careful planning and consideration by the structural engineering group allows Hatteras the ability to offer a level of interior flexibility unmatched within the industry. Optional arrangements in the master suite area include either an office or lounge area overlooking the master, in lieu of the foyer entrance. The lounge area option includes a second television with separate volume controls. Within the same accommodations, you might also interchange a sofa or a cedar-lined hanging locker for the standard dresser.
Should you wish to omit the crew quarters from the arrangement, the possibilities expand to include a walk-in cedar-lined hanging locker and dressing area, an office suite, or even Hatteras’ popular his-and-her head arrangement normally found only on large motor yachts. The standard master head features twin sinks and a large fiberglass shower with a frameless glass door. Amtico strip flooring and stone countertops and backsplashes give the head an elegant look.
The bow stateroom, similar to the 68 Convertible, features a walk-around queen berth with cedar-lined storage beneath and a 20-inch LCD TV for entertaining. Storage is abundant with twin cedar-lined hanging lockers, numerous drawers and cabinets in the hullsides to port and starboard.
The port stateroom features twin berths with cedar-lined storage beneath. For flexibility, the inboard berth slides outboard to form a queen. To starboard, a fourth stateroom features a walk-around queen berth. Storage in each includes a full cedar-lined hanging locker, nightstand with drawers, and blanket lockers on the outboard bulkhead. For entertaining, each stateroom is equipped with a 20-inch LCD TV.
COCKPIT The 77 Convertible benefits from its incredibly wide beam in every area, most notably in the mezzanine-based cockpit. The 192-square-foot cockpit features two 65-inch fish boxes in the deck, as well as an optional box molded into the transom. The mezzanine level offers an additional 25 square feet of cushioned seating for improved visibility aft, as well as modular drop-in units that allow owners to customize the location of freezers, storage tubs and optional baitwells.
Standard arrangement on the upper mezzanine deck will include a 5-cubic-foot freezer outboard next to a second 5-cubic-foot insulated storage box, or the two units can be replaced with a single 10-cubic-foot freezer as an option. On the lower mezzanine level, two 20-gallon storage tubs are installed to starboard, with a third 20-gallon tub to port.
A bait-and-tackle center with two stainless-lined tackle drawers is set to port, and within the steps are a large refrigerated drink box and wet storage compartments for mop heads and chamois.
The 77’s cockpit will be finished to the highest level, thanks to integrated gaffs storage, corner hawsers, side cockpit scuppers that drain through the spray rail, and curved doors that hide the 100- and 50-amp retractable shore cords along with quick disconnects for fresh and saltwater washdowns.
ENCLOSED BRIDGE The 77 Convertible will be introduced with an enclosed flybridge and sweeping interior stairwell as standard. The bridge is equipped with forward-facing seating for captain and four guests, thanks to a centered helm chair and two wide riding seats to port and starboard. Aft, a raised sectional provides the comfort of a Sky Lounge area but is built to house rod storage below. Opposite the sofa is a 37-inch plasma TV and entertainment area with wet bar and combination refrigerator/icemaker.
The forward console is designed to house up to five flat-screen displays and features a convertible-style steering station with single-lever electronic controls. The standard helm will include Hatteras’ computer-based systems monitor that monitors ship’s systems, engine diagnostics, fuel transfer systems, tank levels and more through a touch-screen display.
ENGINE ROOM All Hatteras fuel tanks are constructed of fiberglass and carry approval from Underwriters Laboratory, a standard that requires rigorous construction techniques, consistent pressure testing and quarterly inspections by UL representatives. To ensure a clean engine room, Hatteras incorporates rudder shelves made of pultruded fiberglass in lieu of wood or metal which will rot or corrode over time. Bronze dripless shaft and rudder seals assure a dry bilge area, while centralized sea chests provide easy maintenance of all thru-hull applications. Water manifold blocks ease the service of all hot and cold water applications, and wiring harnesses are tie-wrapped every 6inches and secured every 18 inches.
In addition to its industry leading specs and design, the new 77 Convertible represents the best possible combination of proven Hatteras construction and propulsion techniques and leading-edge technology introduced and proven successful on the 68 Convertible. These innovations include a forced air-induction system for engine room combustion, tunnel trim tabs for increased trim control, underwater exhaust for reduced cockpit fumes and noise, cylindrical shaft keys to eliminate stress risers, crosscut bearings for longer-lasting running gear, and more.
Following closely on the heels of the proven 68 Convertible and the Fall 2005 debut of the 64 Convertible, this announcement advances Hatteras’ position of leadership through aggressive new product development, coupled with a steadfast commitment to customer input. We hope you will share in our excitement as we finalize plans for the industry’s next great flagship yacht.
