REVERSE POLARITY ALARM PROTECTS BOATERS FROM HOT WIRES |

When cruising, boaters face the unknown when they pull into a marina. To
protect them from dockside power problems, Raritan offers a Reverse Polarity Alarm.
When operating properly, the hot wire is connected to the generator at the power plant and the neutral wire is connected to the ground. Current flows through the hot wire and the circuit breakers and panel are designed to disconnect all equipment from electricity if necessary. When plugging in to dockside power, if the polarity is reversed, everything on the boat that is grounded becomes hot and presents a serious shock risk. The circuit breaker and panel will have no effect because "hot" and "neutral" are reversed. Turning off the circuit breaker will not turn off the hot circuit.
Because of this, the Reverse Polarity Alarm is an essential piece of equipment. Raritan's unit provides an audible warning if the neutral wire of incoming 120V AC shore power line is hot. The alarm is enclosed in a corrosion resistant housing for durability. It meets ABYC E11 requirements.
The Reverse Polarity Alarm from Raritan retails for $69.
