Brunswick Purchase Will Create “Hatteras Group”
Brunswick Corporation is pleased to announce the acquisition of Albemarle Boats of Edenton, North Carolina, and the formation of the Hatteras Group within the Brunswick Boat Group.
“As you know, at Brunswick our strategy is to have product offerings in all major powerboat segments – a boat for every type of boater, price range and application,” said Dusty McCoy, President of the Brunswick Boat Group. “The
Albemarle brand of offshore sportfishing boats offers an ideal complement to Hatteras Yachts and to our Saltwater Group, consisting of Boston Whaler, Sea Pro, Sea Boss and Palmetto brands. Together with our leading line of fiberglass runabouts, cruisers and yachts, as well as our aluminum fishing and pontoon boats, Brunswick continues to expand its opportunity to fill the needs of today’s boater.”
Bill Naumann, Hatteras’ President and Chief Executive Officer, will preside over the Hatteras Group and will continue to report to McCoy. Hatteras will remain based in New Bern, as will Naumann and staff. Albemarle’s management team, including President Scott Harrell, will remain in place in Edenton, manufacturing boats from 24 through 41 feet in length. Although Hatteras and Albemarle will stay in their current facilities, the two staffs will work closely together in the future to strengthen and build the Hatteras Group’s offshore sportfishing business.
“Albemarle offers a complementary entry-level opportunity for the Hatteras family, thanks to its quality construction, offshore sportfishing design and commitment to inboard power,” said Naumann. “With two leading brands of saltwater boats, we will be more competitive and agile in our market segment. We will be able to offer dealers a wider choice of boats, which in turn will make them more competitive and profitable. And with a larger product portfolio and more resources to draw upon to build and grow the offshore sportfishing business, this development means opportunity for everyone.”
