Gas Prices 2007/07/03 15:57 Karma: 0
With the increase in gas prices recently, I was just wondering what everyone pays for a gallon of gas at their marina?

I paid $ 1.89 gal in late Jan. 05. It's a state owned marine in
TN.

I don't know. I think 1.89 IS great compared to 2.99

We should also look at how much oil we're taking out of the ground and how much is actually left. Not very much, and not for very many years if we keep on going at the rate we are.
Time to think diesel? hybrid? and other means of more efficient propulsion, for even small boats.

Of course we could also be a little thankful for living where we are and that we can actually buy gasoline to put into our toys AND, that we can buy it for as little as 2.99 a gallon. A quick little Google search of what gasoline costs are in countries other than North America would open some eyes and maybe even instill some appreciation for what we have in the USA / Canada...
Just being the devil's advocate here, not meaning to pick a fight...

I don't think the big oil companies and Uncle Sam are buffaloing us. 1.89 per gallon (on the water no less) is a pretty good price no matter how you look at it. Think about the billions of dollars spent on research, drilling, transport, etc. It's a wonder we don't pay more.

Are oil company execs getting rich? Probably, but so is every other business exec. But I don't think they are pulling one over on the general public. I think they have worked wonders to keep the price as low as it is in the US.

Marinesupportonline, I think you are right on alternate sources. I have seen reports that state the world will run out of oil sometime the middle of this century (2050ish). If these numbers are correct, then we need to rapidly explore alternate sources to replace oil.
