How Did You Pick Your Boat Name? 2007/07/03 15:51 Karma: 0
As I walk around the docks, I am struck by the variety of boat names. Some amusing, some confusing, and some downright funny.

My question is, how did you come up with the name for your boat? If you renamed it, did you follow a ritual? If so, what ritual did you follow?

Our boat name is the "Q E Too". This is the name that was attached to the boat when we purchased it used. It is a professionally done logo which can be viewed at:

I suspect this name was chosen by possibly the original owner when it was a rental boat in California. I can just imagine how the rental might have been advertized: "Rent the Q E Too".

We have had three other boats, only the first of which was named personally. It was a 17-foot plywood runabout with cuddy cabin which I built from a Sears Roebuck kit. I named it "Skipjack" after an island in the San Juans, Washington, which I had visited as a child. Our next boat, a fiberglas 21-foot Reinell cabin cruiser, never had a name attached but was unofficially the "Skipjack II". Our next boat, a wooden Owens cabin cruiser, was previously named "Sue Marie" which we kept.

Most boats are named after a female in your life. relative or nonrelative. that is why most boats have female names. mine is the Patrician Lady VII after my wife Patricia.

Mine is a play off my last name, Miller Tyme, have had it for over 20 years now and have yet to come up with a better one yet.
